I really really like this. I think these corrections are so much more mature. A child won’t respond to the original statements - like “never have a reason to self-harm or have thoughts of suicide.” The newer version is something to which a teenager would actually respond. And the one about sex? I will make sure that whether or not my child is promiscuous, s/he will know about protection and safe sex from a young age. This is the best that we can do, because, as mothers, our rights end there. Our child has a body of their own and will do with it what s/he chooses. But with a good background on safe sex, not to mention other issues, at least I can be comfortable with the fact that my child will have good judgement.
Parenting: The OP’s were doing it wrong.
Regardless of how whorephobic, slut shaming, ableist, ageist, heteronormative or anything else you are- do not pass that shit down to the next generation, because it ensures that that generation’s gay, non-neurotypical, disabled and/or promiscuous kids will have to deal with your kid’s discriminatory bullshit.
Kids soak in a lot of their parents’ attitudes. It’s why the kids from Westboro Baptist claim to hate gays. It’s why Lynx and Lamb Gaede hate PoC. It’s why one of my friends struggles to see depression as a real illness (his parents taught him that it was ‘make believe bullshit’).
And it allows the cycle will continue.
If you want oppression to stop, start by not perpetuating it.
